What is Steam?

Steam is an E-Business whose main focus is providing a service in the form of videogames that are economically accessible to all customers. As many companies, Steam is based in an 'offer and demmand' system, which allows Steam to offer discounts and special sales to its customers in order to facilitate and encourage the purchase of its product, obtaining benefits, both the customers and the company; however, one question might still arise, how does Steam work?

Steam, one of the most well-known cloud-based gaming libraries, was first released by the Valve Corporation in 2003. What started off as a small platform for Valve to provide updates to its games has turned into the largest computer gaming platform in the world. The platform initially released just seven games in 2004, but this number has progressively risen in the ensuing years, reaching a staggering 10,263 in 2020, up from 8,033 in 2019.

Steam allows millions of Users to play computer games that they have been previously bought and downloaded. For obtaining those games, Users need to create and obtain games, or log into a personal Steam account. Having an account gives the possibility of having many games on the same account, without taking a lot of space. However, the games are not downloaded, so Users will have to ownload the game before enjoying it.

It is said that some of the reasons of why Steam has become so popular is due to it offers the possibility of storing a large amount of games without using too much computer memory. Besides, Steams provides more than 30.000 games, either free or 'paid', offering its users special offers and discounts.
